Design Engineer

Position Overview:

Responsible for developing products which meet design input including new product specifications, performance criteria, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.   Design product within material, labor, and capital investment costs.  Design products and implement within schedule.   Product is designed for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA).  Document designs through drawings and/or specifications identifying key characteristics necessary to meet design input.   Manage product design projects with customers as assigned.  Ability to work independently or minimum supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Authority Level: This position has the authority to perform the duties and responsibilities as listed.
  • Ensure the design of fabricated parts and assemblies as required to meet on time submission for quotes to customers utilizing team members or other resources as available; including Outside Engineering Services
  • Participate in design development reviews with Designers, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales. The reviews include concept/alternate designs, DFM/DFA development as needed, and progress of design and final acceptance
  • Prepare task request, with required documentation, for work in lab and model shop
  • Prepare Engineering Change Requests and track through implementation
  • Review and approve 1st Article Reports
  • Support operations in pilot and initial production
  • Analyze problems, possible causes and solutions – to include Quality rejections
  • Travel to customers for field design review and/or first article fit up
  • Identify Cost Reductions/Quality Improvements and implement on current products
  • Follow ISO Design and Development policies and procedures
  • Safety minded
  • Prepare cost analysis of new products – as requested
  • Design review procedures
  • Additional activities deemed important by supervisor
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD: Read & create; flat patterns, 2D, 3D
  • Intermediate skills in Pro E, Creo 2.0 (formerly Pro/e Wildfire 4.0)
  • Advanced skills in Solidworks
  • Advanced Math skills proficient in geometry
  • Excellent customer Service skills
  • Advanced problem solving /analysis skills
  • Intermediate skills in PLM – Windchill PDMLink
  • ERP- JobBoss: Advanced skill in system maintenance and management
  • Advanced Organizational skills
  • Knowledge of material costing and inventory standards
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures: understands and adheres to all
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office programs
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of engine components
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Advance presentation skills
  • SOP for manufacturing environment






Education and Experience:

·        Mechanical Engineering degree (B.S.M.E.) – ABET accredited school preferred

·        Coursework in heat transfer, a plus

·        1-4 years design experience in a manufacturing environment

·        Experience in sheet metal fabrication processes/equipment, preferred

·        Experience with software programs: AutoCAD 2012, Creo Parametric Wildfire 4.0 (formerly Pro/e Wildfire 4.0), PLM – Windchill PDMLink
