Microbiologist

The individual is responsible for many aspects of microbiological laboratory work, including performing analyses, client relations, quality control, inventory, and scheduling of laboratory personnel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology (or closely related field)
- Hands on laboratory experience
- Knowledge and demonstration of sterile technique and pure culture maintenance
- Proven problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong verbal and written communication in English (Spanish capabilities a plus)
- Flexible work schedule (including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Able and willing to travel for extended periods
Responsibilities:
- Utilize cultural and rapid methodologies (e.g. real time PCR, petrifilm, etc.) to identify pathogens, indicators, and spoilage organisms in fresh produce, water, and environmental swabs
- Interacting with clients by communication test results, answering questions, and sending sampling supplies based on their needs
- Developing, maintaining, and measuring processes to increase the accuracy of turnaround time to results
- Ensuring implementation of the QA/QC program with regards to all operations and documentation requirements
- Managing the microbiology laboratory staff relating to job training, as well as coaching and mentoring to facilitate the staff’s professional growth
- Provide technical dialogue regarding industry research, outbreak data and correspondence with customers and academic resources
- On occasion, travel to satellite laboratories for extended periods to assist with laboratory coverage
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director of Microbiology and/ or the Laboratory Director
- Clean Driving record of 5 years is required when applying for this position
